Amador County Farmers Markets & Local Food Scene
Three farmers markets, a tight-knit food producer network, and a handful of restaurants doing serious local sourcing. Here's the Amador food scene.

The three weekly farmers markets
Amador Farmers Market (Sutter Creek, Saturdays)
The flagship. Saturdays year-round in the Eureka Street parking area. Produce, eggs, bread, cheese, meat, prepared foods. Best attended by 9 AM. Closes by 1 PM. CalFresh accepted with double-up incentives.
Jackson Farmers Market (Sundays in season)
Seasonal, downtown Jackson. Smaller than Sutter Creek but worth knowing about if you live nearby.
Plymouth Foothill Farmers Market (Saturdays in season)
Newer market, growing fast. Wine-country adjacent so it draws visitors from tasting weekends.
The local producers worth knowing
Pondo Pomeg Pomegranates
Local pomegranate orchard with juice and fresh fruit fall through winter.
Rancho Victoria Vineyard (Plymouth)
Olive oil from estate-grown olives, alongside wine production.
Apple Hill (just over the line)
Not Amador technically, but where Amador residents go for apples September–December.
Local egg producers
Multiple small flocks selling at the markets and farm-direct via roadside signs. Quality is consistently better than supermarket organic.
Lockeford Sausages
San Joaquin Valley but stocked widely in Amador. Old-world sausages, lineckas, and bratwursts.
The restaurants doing serious local sourcing
Taste (Plymouth)
Modern American with rotating local ingredients. Reservations required Friday/Saturday. The destination restaurant of Amador County.
Element (Sutter Creek)
Local sourcing where it makes sense. Strong wine list with deep Amador representation.
Caffè Via D'Oro (Sutter Creek)
Italian, family-run. House-made pasta on occasion.
Andrae's Bakery (Amador City)
Pastries and breads using local grain when available. The pain au chocolat is worth the drive.
Susan's Place (Sutter Creek)
Wine bar with small plates and salads using market produce in season.
Wineries with food worth visiting for
- Helwig — food trucks on weekends
- Andis — small bites at the tasting room
- Sobon Estate — picnic-friendly grounds
- Renwood — wine club events with multi-course pairings
Where to grocery shop
- Raley's (Jackson and Sutter Creek) — the main full-service supermarket for most of the county
- Save Mart (Jackson) — alternative full-service
- Holiday Market (Sutter Creek) — smaller but well-curated
- El Dorado Savings / Bel Air (Pioneer / Pine Grove) — limited but functional for upper-elevation residents
- Costco — Stockton (75 min) or Elk Grove (75 min)
- Trader Joe's / Whole Foods — none in Amador; nearest are Sacramento/Folsom
The CSA option
A few local farms run small CSA (community-supported agriculture) shares with pickup at the farmers markets. Worth signing up in winter for spring delivery.
What this tells you about living here
You can eat very well in Amador if you organize around the Saturday market and don't expect daily Trader Joe's access. The trade is real but workable — and the produce in season is genuinely better than what you'll find in any city supermarket.
